A new beginning...
Categories: Mapdex Overview
Hi all-
I guess I should get right to it...I will be leaving the Kansas Geological Survey and taking a position with ESRI in Redlands, CA to join the core ArcGIS Server team. I am very sad to leave the Survey and the University of Kansas. It has been a great place to work. I never imagined I would get such freedom to explore new technologies, mine an amazing amount of data, build visualization tools, and work with such great people. I truly will miss the great people I have worked with (especially Ken, Amber, Asif, Keith, Brownie, Kurt, Tim, Lynn, Bob, and everybody else I have worked with over the last 7 years).
Mapdex will live on past me. I have really enjoyed building it and talking people into working with me on it (Praveen, Asif, Amber, Kurt, Ken, Dana, Keith). The future for Mapdex is quite bright (there is actually some funding possibilities on the horizon!). Once I leave the Survey (August 11th) I will not post on the Mapdex blog. I will ensure that there is smooth transition between personnel here at the Survey for Mapdex. Look for Ken, Asif, and Keith to keep up Mapdex well into the future.
Praveenkumar (my graduate student who has done much of the work with the front end of Mapdex) will also be joining ESRI (ArcGIS server Unix/Linux) this summer. I expect great things from him as he continues to grow.
I also want to thank my wife for taking the risk with me. We are definitely leaving our comfort zone. Thanks buddy!
Cheers!
Jeremy (here is my new email for now... mapdex@gmail.com )
BTW...There should be a great job posting here at the Survey over the next couple of weeks.

Re: A new beginning...
Enjoy man - there is a ton to do in that area of the US of A. There will also be cool things you get to do as a Core Server Guru. I can relate to those feelings about missing people you had a chance to work with....
Congrats!

Congratulations! Should be a fun transition, and a great group of people to work with. Hopefully they let you continue to blog!

Jeremy:
Best of luck. At least you got one thing right: being married before moving to Redlands.
And on the drive out, look at those beautiful Colorado mountains and wonder how great it would be to work on the Front Range someday(!)

Re: A new beginning...
It's all good on the "dark side"... and I really don't think the scenery will be all that different in Redlands...

Re: A new beginning...
JB,
I'll add my sentiments to the list already here. I know the survey will have a difficult time replacing you. Your time under Bob and then as a full-timer really helped shape GeoInformatics at the KGS and at some level for LOICZ, OBIS, and others. My coworkers returned from the UC today and we discussed how hard ESRI is pushing ArcGIS server. You're in for a lot of exciting growth! I hope your kids enjoy your new palm trees.
